Hello Lake Ridge Middle School Parents/Guardians –  this is the final week before Winter Break.

BUSES

Students are reminded to ride their assigned bus. Many buses may travel near your son or daughter's stop, but students cannot ride a different bus without express permission from the parent and the school administration.  Bus routes and assignments are made so buses are not overcrowded, and students can sit safely on a bus to ride home.  If a student misses a bus, they should report to the front office and call for a ride home.  Students should also pay attention to the afternoon announcements to hear when their bus arrives so they can be dismissed from the classroom promptly.

The Code of Behavior specifically states: Students must submit a written request from the parent to go to another stop other than their regularly scheduled stop on their regularly scheduled bus or to ride an alternate bus. This written request is subject to approval of the school principal or designee before entering the bus. Bus drivers must receive notification by the school office when approval is given to a student to change to an alternate stop or bus.

No change will be made in the location of bus stops or bus routing without approval by the Transportation Department.

No change in the bus assigned may be made without the permission of the school principal and the Transportation Department.

MATHEMATICS PROGRAM OFFERS INFORMATION ON MIDDLE SCHOOL VIRTUAL MATH CLUB OPPORTUNITY

The mathematics team is please to be able to offer a PWCS Middle School Virtual Math Club for the rest of the 2022-23 School Year.  Please see the attached flyer for more details.  Student should apply by December 21.  Eligible applicant include any student enrolled in Math 6, Math 6 Extended, Math 7, Math 7 Extended, or Math 8/Pre-Algebra.  Space is limited to 30 participants.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS

Students who are staying at Lake Ridge for after-school clubs, tutoring/testing, and activities need to report right to the club sponsor or teacher after all busses have been dismissed.  We are noticing an increase in students leaving the building to socialize and then returning to the building to meet with their teacher or club.  We need to account for students staying after school for clubs and activities and therefore we need students to report right to their club/activity.

ACTIVITY BUSES

We now have Activity Buses available on Tuesdays and Thursdays to transport students who stay after school for tutoring, clubs, etc.  The buses will depart from LRMS at approximately 4:30 each afternoon.  Bus stop locations have been shared with staff and they can assist students in finding the closest stop to their home.  Please make sure your student knows their home address so we can assist them.  PWCS policy does not allow us to publish the bus stop locations in this newsletter or on our website.  Please note that the activity bus stops are not necessarily the same as the regular every day bus stop.

IMPACT AID FORMS DUE

We’d like ot remind you that the Impact Aid Packets are due, in ParentVue, by December 16.  This federal program provides PWCS with significant funding for students whose parents/guardians are military-connected or work on federal property in Virginia.  Once logged into ParentVue, select Online Records on the top of the screen and select the Impact Aid Packet from the dropdown menu.

NO-BAG POLICY FOR ALL INDOOR EVENTS

PWCS enacted a no-bag policy for all indoor events (athletics, music concerts, plays, etc.) at the middle school level. This is in alignment with the policy currently in place at all high schools. This includes backpacks, purses, camera equipment bags, etc.

Small wallet-sized clutch bags, clear diaper bags, and medically necessary bags are permitted. These bags may be subject to search. This policy went into effect for indoor events at all middle schools on Monday, January 10, 2022. Our school will have a plan in place to secure any bookbags, for participating students, as needed during events. We will not be responsible for securing bags from any attendees.  You will be asked to leave your bag in your car or take it home. Signage will be posted to remind attendees prior to arriving at the ticket area. We thank you in advance for adhering to this policy and look forward to having you with us to cheer on our students.

Please remind any guests, who do not receive the Wolf Weekly, about this policy before they arrive to any event(s).

Monday is a “B” day
