COUNSELING

Attendance Information

Lake Ridge Middle School will continue to work towards the PWCS Strategic Plan with a focus of reducing chronic absenteeism. At the end of the first quarter across the county, we saw that 52% of total absences were being excused. Lake Ridge Middle will continue to closely monitor absences and if needed, will be implementing PWCS Regulation 724-1 II. A 1 for personal illness for a student. This includes requiring “a written note signed by the student’s medical provider certifying that the student has a bona fide medical reason for his/her absence, may be required by the school principal or his/her designee after a student has accrued 10 or more absences for the school year, and for every additional absence thereafter."

High School Specialty Program Fair

Is your student interested in a High School Specialty Program? The LRMS Counseling Department will be hosting a Specialty Program fair for interested 8th grade students on December 12th. Program coordinators from Woodbridge High School, Hylton High School, Freedom High School, Garfield High School, Governor's School, Osbourn Park High School, Forest Park High School, and Potomac High School will be available to meet with students. More information and a sign up like will be posted on the Counseling Canvas page and the Student Canvas page by December 1. Students must sign up to attend this event.

Rhithm

Select PWCS schools will pilot the use of the Rhithm app as a check-in tool that provides responsive support for students in just 3-5 minutes. Students respond to five questions around Mental, Energy, Emotional, Physical, and Social wellness, then engage in a brief well-being related activity that is tailored to student needs, builds social-emotional skills, and help students get ready to learn. LRMS students will utilize the app a minimum of once a week during advisory starting in January 2023. Some classes may begin using it beginning in December 2022. For more information about the app, please see the attached information or visit Rhithm App Parent-FAQs. If you would like to speak with someone after reviewing the attached information and the FAQs, please contact Ms. Merica, our Director of School Counseling at [email protected].

ATHLETICS

Boy's Basketball:

Wednesday, November 30 - HOME vs. Manassas Park

Thursday, December 1 - AWAY vs. Hampton

Games are slated to start at 5:15 p.m. to allow adequate time for both teams and officials to arrive and warm up, doors will not be opening until 4:55 p.m. We will also be closely monitoring food in the gym; there should be NO food in the gym at any time, we are asking for it to be eaten in the hallway between the gym and the cafeteria. Thank you for your understanding as we try to keep our gym and school clean!

PWCS enacted a no-bag policy for all indoor athletic events at the middle school level. This is in alignment with the policy currently in place at all high schools. This includes backpacks, purses, camera equipment bags, etc. Small wallet-sized clutch bags, clear diaper bags, and medically necessary bags are permitted. These bags may be subject to search. This policy went into effect for indoor athletic events at all middle schools on Monday, January 10, 2022. Our school will have a plan in place to secure any student bookbags as needed during athletic events. We will not be responsible for securing bags from any attendees who are not students at our school. Signage will be posted to remind attendees prior to arriving at the ticket area. We thank you in advance for adhering to this policy and look forward to having you with us to cheer on our student-athletes.

Monday is a “B” day
