Wolf Weekly Newsletter

October 23, 2022

Hello Lake Ridge Middle School Parents/Guardians –  Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow, October 24, 2022 in celebration of Diwali.

TOUCH BASE

Lake Ridge Middle will hold informal Touch Base conferences on Monday, October 31st from 9:00 am -11:30 am. Each parent/guardian will have 3-5 minutes to speak with each of their students' teachers. This is a great time to ask about your student's overall work and behavior habits in a class. You will be able to schedule a more formal conference during this time. I must emphasize that we cannot dedicate significant time to any individual student/family. These conferences are first come first serve, there is no sign-up sheet. We hope to see you there!

SPIRIT WEAR

Our online Spirit Wear store is now open.

Please visit https://bsnteamsports.com/shop/Tm6kYu1HMr to order.  The store will remain open until October 31st.

LOST AND FOUND

As we near the end of the first marking period, we’ve already accumulated many items in our lost and found.  If you are missing an item, now is the time to see if it has been turned in.  Phones, headphones, keys, and jewelry can be found in the front office.  Water bottles, clothes, shoes, and lunch bags can be found in the cafeteria.

PTO

Our LRMS PTO has fit our first big membership goal for the year and is excited to keep working towards our next one. Help us meet this goal so that the PTO can continue to support LRMS but also so our students can enjoy seeing Mr. Dutrow get pies in the face from our mascots!  To join the PTO, follow the link below.

FALL DANCE

The SCA is sponsoring a Fall Dance this Friday, October 28th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Permission slips will go home with students on Wednesday and tickets will be sold on Thursday and Friday during lunch.  Tickets will not be available for purchase at the door.  Tickets are $3.00.  Food and drink concessions will be available at the dance.  This is a Fall Dance and not a Halloween Dance, therefore costumes will not be allowed.

FOOD DRIVE

With the fall season now here, that means Thanksgiving is just around the corner. The ACTS Hunger Prevention Center is seeking our help in donating food items to ensure every family has a meal to share on this special holiday.  They rely heavily upon donations to make it happen.  Last year, donations to ACTS provided the fixings for over 1000 families to prepare Thanksgiving meals.  They are anticipating that number, or more, again this year.

Please see the attached flyer for information about needed items.  We will have a box at the school inside Door 1 or items can be dropped off at the ACTS Hunger Prevention Center located at 17958 Dr. David Cline Lane in Dumfries.

GRADING POLICY

As we approach the end of the first marking period, I’d like to remind you of the retake policy.

LRMS, in conjunction with the PWCS grading regulation will collaborate with students on re-assessment opportunities. Students will have a two-week window to re-test summative assessments from the date of the posted grade. Teachers have the autonomy to reassess specific objectives outside of this window through spiral reviews, benchmark tests, verbal quiz, etc. Formative Assignments should be completed as evidence in order to retake. The student will have seven calendar days from the date assessment grade is posted to complete all formative work to prepare for the retake. Formative assignments will not be able to be made up outside of this window.

EXAMPLE:

Summative Assessment Date Posted: October 4th

Formative Assessment Deadline: October 11th

Summative Retake/test Deadline: October 18th
