Wolf Weekly

August 7, 2022

Hello Lake Ridge Middle School Parents/Guardians – We are working hard to get things finalized and ready for the upcoming 2022-23 school year.  We will share more information with you, in the coming weeks, as it becomes available.

SUMMER HOURS

The school office is open during the summer.  Office hours are 8:00-4:00 Monday – Friday.

UPDATE TO REPORTING ATTENDANCE

In an effort to make the process more efficient, we have altered the method(s) for reporting absences and other attendance to the school.  ParentVue should be used to report FULL-DAY absences for the current day and/or future days (up to 30 days in advance).

We have also setup a designated email for reporting absences.  The new email address is [email protected].  You can use the email address to report full-day absences (previous, current day, or future), late arrivals, and/or early dismissals.  A link will also be put on our website that allows you to report absences.  Note: any email asking to excuse an absence or tardy MUST come from the parent’s email.  Anything sent from the student’s email address will not be accepted.  Hand-written notes can also be dropped off to the front office.  A note must include a parent’s signature.  Please keep in mind that students will not be called to the office for early dismissal until you’ve arrived and staff has verified your I.D. against the emergency contact list.

SUMMER SCHOOL DEVICES

If  you kept your school device, or were issued a new one, for Summer School, please make sure to return it to the Lake Ridge Middle School front office this week.  All devices need to be returned so that they can be inspected, repaired, and updated for the upcoming school year.

SCHEDULES

Student class schedules will not be available until August 19th.  They will be published in StudentVue and ParentVue on that day.

Bus schedules are still being finalized.  You can find preliminary bus stop information in the Student Info section of ParentVue.  The Transportation department will be making changes over the next couple of weeks, so you’ll want to periodically check for updates.

The PWCS Transportation Department sets up the bus stops and the pickup/drop-off times.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact them at 571-374-6591 or email Transportation at [email protected].  Lake Ridge Middle School cannot make changes to the bus routes.

CAFETERIA

A federal waiver that made school meals free to all students regardless of their family’s income expired on June 30.  Families who do not qualify for free and reduced price meals will pay for school meals beginning this fall.  Breakfast is $1.50 and Lunch is $2.65.  Applications for free and reduced meals will be available in early August.  Families who qualify for reduced price meals will also receive free meals.  To see if you qualify, please visit the PWCS Nutrition website at https://pwcsnutrition.com Students will need to know their Student ID number for purchases.  Please make sure they have this number written down if they don’t know it.

YEARBOOKS

Students that pre-ordered their yearbooks but couldn’t pick them up before the end of the school year, are able to pick them up in the front office.  We have ordered more yearbooks based upon the number of parents who filled out the interest form.  We have rceived word that they have shipped and should arrive this week.  We will notify those families directly when books are available to pick up.  The cost will remain $35.00.

NEW WOLF DAY

We will have our New Wolf Day on August 18th.  The schedule will be as follows:

ATHLETICS

Physicals:

Students must have an Updated (Completed after May 1st, 2022 ATHLETIC Physical on file in order to try out for any Athletics this upcoming school year.  The ATHLETIC Physical is different from the one turned into the Nurse.  Last year’s Athletic Physical will not be accepted in order to try out.  Using the link (site://www/academics___programs/student_activities/student_athletics/index) select the Middle School Athletic Physical form to be printed and completed by you AND your Primary Care Physician. Please make sure all signatures are completed in order to avoid any missed days of tryouts. There will not be a physician on site to complete the Athletic Physical, this must be completed by your Primary Care Physician or a walk-in clinic (ex. Patient First).

Concussion Training:

Athletes have the option to complete their Concussion Training online or in person. It is HIGHLY recommended that athletes and parents complete the Concussion Training together online (site://www/academics___programs/student_activities/concussion_information), print out the form, and make sure all signatures are completed. In-person Concussion Training should be used as a last resort. If you are new to Prince William County, your Student ID might not work with the online training. Please do not wait until the last minute to communicate this. If you are having trouble, please email Mr. Larson at [email protected]  The online Concussion Training portal opened on July 10.  It is unavailable during school hours on school days.

To ensure the smoothest transition, please keep ALL forms together (physicals and concussion training certificate). Emailed forms will NOT be accepted, you must drop off the hard copy at the main office or have the athlete bring it with them on August 22nd.

Tryouts:

As of July 1st, the first day of Middle School Tryouts for Fall (Girl’s Volleyball, Boy’s Soccer, Girl’s Track, and Football) will take place on Tuesday, August 23rd from 3:15 – 5:15 p.m. Students will need to have necessary equipment for their sport. More information will be communicated as we get closer to the beginning of the school year.  An Updated ATHLETIC Physical and Concussion Training must be on file before the first day of tryouts. Any missing forms will keep the athlete from participating until all forms are turned in.

Cheerleading - Tryouts will be held August 24 – 26 from 3:15 -5:00 p.m.  Students will report to the cafeteria to meet Coach Ross.  All tryout participants must have a current athletic physical on file along with proof of completion of the online, or in-person, concussion training.  All participants are asked to wear athletic attire.  Be sure to come ready to learn and have fun.  Any questions can be referred to Coach Ross at [email protected]

You can turn your ATHLETIC Physical and Concussion Training in at any time prior to tryouts.  If your athlete is planning to play a Spring sport, they do not have to wait until March tryouts begin to turn in their paperwork. If your student plans to play multiple sports, only one Athletic Physical and Concussion Training needs to be submitted (prior to the first tryout).

Please contact the Athletic Director, Mr. Larson  [email protected] if you have any questions.

IMMUNIZATIONS REQUIRED

As a reminder for all students, especially our rising 7th graders, proof of immunization is due no later than Friday, August 19th in order for your student to be eligible to start school on August 22nd.  Login to your ParentVue account, click on the Health icon and you’ll be able to see if your student is missing any required immunizations.  Per the PWCS Student Health Services Department, unavailability at your primary care provider’s office does not allow for an extension of the deadline.  All students must be in full compliance with their immunizations to be eligible to come to school on August 22nd.  Click the following link for more information on the required vaccines.  SupplementalGuidance.pdf (virginia.gov).  You can contact your primary care provider, urgent care clinic, or a local pharmacy to make an appointment before they fill up.    Immunization records can be dropped off to the school or emailed to Mrs. Camacho at [email protected], Mrs. Gouro at [email protected] AND Mr. Forberg at [email protected].  Mrs. Camacho is out of the building until August 15th, so it is best to send records to everyone so that they can be promptly entered.
