August 14, 2022

Hello Lake Ridge Middle School Parents/Guardians – We are getting closer to the kick-off of the new 2022-23 school year.

SUMMER HOURS

The school office is open during the summer.  Office hours are 8:00-4:00 Monday – Friday.

BACK TO SCHOOL PACKET

Please make sure to login to your ParentVue account and complete the 2022-23 Back to School Packet (Returning Students).  This allows you to make updates to your students emergency contacts, phone numbers, email addresses, etc…  Once logged into ParentVue, select Online Records and choose the Back to School packet from the dropdown menu.

YEARBOOKS

The new supply of yearbooks has arrived!!  If you pre-ordered last year or put your name on the interest form in June, please stop by and grab your yearbook in the front office. Students that pre-ordered their yearbooks will not have to pay again, but the cost is $35.00 for those that filled out the interest form.

SUMMER SCHOOL DEVICES

If you kept your school device, or were issued a new one, for Summer School, please make sure to return it to the Lake Ridge Middle School front office this week.  All devices need to be returned so that they can be inspected, repaired, and updated for the upcoming school year.

SCHOOL CLINIC

Please login to your ParentVue account and check to make sure that your student is compliant with all required immunizations.  Once logged into ParentVue, click on the Health tab and scroll through the immunization list.  Each immunization will show compliant, non-compliant or not required. Per the PWCS Student Health Services Department, unavailability at your primary care provider’s office does not allow for an extension of the deadline.  Updated records must be received no later than August 19 in order to have your student eligible to begin on August 22nd.  Click the following link for more information on the required vaccines.  SupplementalGuidance.pdf (virginia.gov).  You can contact your primary care provider, urgent care clinic, or a local pharmacy to make an appointment before they fill upImmunization records can be dropped off to the school or emailed to Mrs. Camacho at [email protected], Mrs. Gouro at [email protected] AND Mr. Forberg at [email protected].

Mrs. Camacho will be in the building beginning Monday August 15 for families that need to drop off student medications to be left in the clinic.  Please make sure to have the proper forms filled out and signed ahead of time.  The common forms are included in the email this newsletter was sent in.

UPDATE TO REPORTING ATTENDANCE

In an effort to make the process more efficient, we have altered the method(s) for reporting absences and other attendance to the school.  ParentVue should be used to report FULL-DAY absences for the current day and/or future days (up to 30 days in advance).

We have also setup a designated email for reporting absences.  The new email address is [email protected].  You can use the email address to report full-day absences (previous, current day, or future), late arrivals, and/or early dismissals.  There is also a link on our website that allows you to report absences.  Note: any email asking to excuse an absence or tardy MUST come from the parent’s email.  Anything sent from the student’s email address will not be accepted.  Hand-written notes can also be dropped off to the front office.  A note must include a parent’s signature.  Please keep in mind that students will not be called to the office for early dismissal until you’ve arrived and staff has verified your I.D. against the emergency contact list

SCHEDULES

Student class schedules will not be available until August 19th.  They will be published in StudentVue and ParentVue on that day.

Bus schedules are still being finalized.  You can find preliminary bus stop information in the Student Info section of ParentVue.  The Transportation department will be making changes over the next couple of weeks, so you’ll want to periodically check for updates.

The PWCS Transportation Department sets up the bus stops and the pickup/drop-off times.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact them at 571-374-6591 or email Transportation at [email protected].  Lake Ridge Middle School cannot make changes to the bus routes.

NEW WOLF DAY

We will have our New Wolf Day on August 18th.  Parents/Guardians are invited along with their students.  The students will report to the gymnasium where they will follow rotations for activities including a building tour and a popsicle treat.  Parents/Guardians will meet in the cafeteria to hear important information about transitioning to Middle School.  The schedule will be as follows:

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.:  7th/8th Grade students new to Lake Ridge MS

RETURNING 7TH & 8TH GRADE STUDENTS

The 7th & 8th grade returning students will have an opportunity to enjoy a popsicle, explore the building and see their friends.  This is very informal event designed to allow the students some social time as we prepare to return for the school year.  Students are not obligated to stay for the entire hour.

1:00 – 2:00 p.m.:  7th Grade ice-cream social and welcome back

2:00 – 3:00 p.m.:  8th Grade ice-cream social and welcome back

 ATHLETICS

Athletic Physicals and Concussion Training:

This is a reminder that all athletes must have an updated, after May 1st, 2022, Athletic Physical and have completed the Concussion Training online or in-person before the start of tryouts on August 23rd. Previous Athletic Physicals and Concussion Training are invalid for the current season. You will only need to file ONE Athletic Physical and Concussion Training for the entire 2022-2023 school year. For access to the Athletic Physical Form and Concussion training please visit site://www/academics___programs/student_activities/student_athletics/index. As we approach the beginning of the school year, please note that the Online Concussion Training will be blocked during school hours, 8 am to 3 pm; you will need to wait until after 3 pm to complete the Online Training. To ensure the smoothest transition, please keep ALL forms together (physicals and concussion training certificate).  Emailed forms will NOT be accepted, you must drop off the hard copy at the main office or have the athlete bring it with them on August 22nd.

Next Tuesday, August 16th we will host our first in-person Concussion Training beginning promptly at 6:30 pm. You must be on time as doors will lock once the Concussion Training begins and Athletes must be with an adult. If an adult does not attend, the Concussion Training will not be valid, and you will have to complete it at another school or online. If you are planning to turn in your Athletic Physical at the in-person Concussion Training, please make sure that everything is completed before attending. We will have a designated area for coaches to check and make sure all paperwork is completed correctly and collect it once the Concussion Training has been completed.

Tryouts:

As a reminder Fall Tryouts (Girl's Volleyball, Girl's Track, Boy's Soccer, and Football) will begin on August 23rd from 3:15 to 5:15. Cheerleading will hold tryouts from August 24th through the 26th. Athletes should bring/wear proper athletic attire for their sport (athletic shorts, sneakers/cleats, and an appropriate shirt), they will have an opportunity to change in the locker room before tryouts begin. Coaches will be checking an updated Eligibility List at the beginning of practice to see if the updated Athletic Physical and Concussion Training have been completed before trying out. If they are missing any part, they will not be able to try out until all paperwork has been submitted.

To ensure a fair and equitable tryout for all athletes, all tryouts and practices are closed to the public per Prince William County Public Schools Policy. Please respect all athletes participating in that sport as some athletes might be nervous during the tryout process. Thank you for understanding.

You can turn your ATHLETIC Physical and Concussion Training in at any time prior to tryouts.  If your athlete is planning to play a Spring sport, they do not have to wait until March tryouts begin to turn in their paperwork. If your student plans to play multiple sports, only one Athletic Physical and Concussion Training needs to be submitted (prior to the first tryout).

Please contact the Athletic Director, Mr. Larson  [email protected] if you have any questions.
