Good evening Lake Ridge Middle School Parents/Guardians-  

We hope you enjoyed your Spring Break and are ready to begin the 4th Marking Period upon return Tuesday.

4TH MARKING PERIOD BEGINS
Tuesday is the beginning of the 4th marking period.  All students should check their schedules in StudentVue to ensure they go to their new quarterly encore classes.  To change the focus, in both StudentVue and ParentVue, click on “Class Schedule” on the left-hand side.  Then select Quarter 4 towards the top of the page.

AI-ENABLED GLASSES
Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) has established new guidance regarding the possession and use of AI-enabled glasses in schools. AI-enabled glasses are wearable devices that can discreetly record, process, and display information using artificial intelligence.  

Under Policy 729, Cell Phone-Free Education, AI-enabled glasses meet the definition of cell phones or personal electronic communication devices and are subject to the same restrictions. 

In recent months, schools nationwide have seen an increase in student use of this technology. In response, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and the College Board have provided guidance on how AI-enabled glasses should be managed in educational settings. PWCS is aligning with this guidance to ensure consistency, protect student privacy, and maintain safe, distraction-free learning environments. 

  • AI-enabled glasses must be turned off and stored from bell to bell.  
  • Devices may only be used before the first bell and after dismissal; provided use does not violate the PWCS Code of Behavior.  
  • Storage means the device is not worn on the face or head and is placed in a backpack, in the student’s locker, in a locked pouch, or in a designated place in the classroom.  

The following uses of AI-enabled glasses are always strictly prohibited on school property, school buses, and school-sponsored events:  

  • Audio, photo, or video recording of students, staff, or visitors without explicit permission.  
  • Use in restrooms, locker rooms, or changing areas.  
  • Livestreaming or AI-assisted analysis of people or environments.  
  • AI impersonation or altered media involving students or staff.  
  • Accessing or creating content that is obscene, harassing, threatening, or disruptive to a K–12 learning environment.  

Transportation (All Students)
AI-enabled glasses on school buses are permitted when used in compliance with prohibited use and:  

  • They do not distract the driver.  
  • They do not compromise student safety.  

Assessments
The wearing of AI-enabled glasses is always prohibited during any assessment to include daily class assessments, nationally normed external tests such as the SAT, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge, and Standards of Learning (SOL) Assessments.  

Enforcement and Consequences
Violations involving AI-enabled glasses will follow the same progressive discipline structure used for cell phone violations, in alignment with the PWCS Code of Behavior, including:  

  • Device surrendered  
  • Parent/guardian notification and pick up  
  • Disciplinary referrals  
  • Additional disciplinary actions for repeat or severe violations  

Exceptions
Exceptions to the use of AI-enabled glasses are limited and considered on an individual basis. Requests are reviewed through established IEP or Section 504 processes when necessary to support a student’s documented needs.

  • June 5, 2026- Grill on the Hill (8th grade only) during the school day
  • FUN DAY-  June 10, 2026 (during the school day)

  • Last Day of School- June 12, 2026
  • Teacher workday- June 15, 2026

End of Year Requirements for Attendance to Activities
To attend the FUN DAY and 8th Grade Dance, students must meet the following criteria starting the 4th Marking Period (April 7):

  1. Library Books and Fines:
    • All library books must be returned.
    • No outstanding fines.
  2. Disciplinary Referrals:
    • Any student receiving a referral that receives exclusionary discipline (Out of School Suspension) will lose the privilege to attend.
    • Students with 3 referrals resulting in 1-hour after-school detention to Saturday school (non-exclusionary discipline) will not be able to attend unless they complete 1 hour of community service* with a staff member.  The staff member must sign off on the completed time. This is a one-time opportunity. If that student receives a 4th referral, that results in non-exclusionary discipline they will not be allowed to attend.

These requirements ensure that students are responsible and maintain good behavior leading up to these events.

*The deadline for completing community service prior to the 8th grade Dance is May 8, 2026.

The deadline to complete community service for Fun Day is June 2, 2026.

Students are responsible for picking up a Community Service Form and scheduling their own Community Service.  Forms will be available in the front office. Community Service must be performed at LRMS with a staff member.

 

Monday is a teacher workday and students will remain home.  We are excited to welcome them back into the building on Tuesday.

Tuesday will be a “B” day.
