Good evening Lake Ridge Middle School Parents/Guardians-

GEOMETRY DASH GAME

I wanted to bring to your attention a matter of concern regarding the game "Geometry Dash." Recent reports suggest that downloading the game on computers may pose a risk of malware infection. It is advisable to exercise caution and refrain from downloading or allowing your children to download this game on any computer. Malware can compromise the security of the device and personal information.

If your student has downloaded “Geometry Dash”, they will need to submit a helpdesk ticket to our Technical Support Specialist, Ms. Pittman, to have their laptop reimaged. Please take a moment to discuss with your children and ensure they are aware of the potential risks associated with downloading games from unknown sources. It's critical to prioritize the safety and security of our devices and the information they contain.

MESSAGE FROM THE CROSSING GUARDS

The crossing guards stationed in front of Lake Ridge Middle School have noticed an increase of parents dropping their children off in unsafe manners. In the past week they have had students exit vehicles in left turn lanes and in the travel lanes. Friday morning a student got out of their parent’s car in the through lane of Mohican Road, while traffic was moving on Mohican Road.

With the increased volume of parents who choose to drive their children to school, not every vehicle will get into the drop-off area before the final bell. For those who choose to drive your children to school, it would be much safer for you to pull on to Seminole Road and have your child cross safely with the crossing guards. It is also helpful to allow extra time so as to avoid the need for unsafe drop-offs.

The increasing pattern of last-minute bail outs from vehicles, and children coming from unexpected directions, is a situation ripe for disaster. Parents, it is important to let your children off at a safe spot. Thank you for your assistance in keeping the students safe as they cross to and from school.

UPCOMING SCHEDULING

Rising 7th and Rising 8th graders will begin the course request process for the 24-25 school year the week of February 26th through March 1st. The Counseling Department will be visiting with students through their music class. Course requests will be entered through StudentVue and viewable through ParentVue. More information will be shared through Canvas once counselors visit the music classes. The deadline to enter courses requests will be March 15th.

Rising 9th Grade students will have the opportunity to meet individually with a counselor to complete the course request process for the 2024-25 school year. We are working with our feeder high schools as well as specialty program coordinators to secure dates. Woodbridge Senior High School, our largest feeder is scheduled to come the week we return from Spring Break. We will provide more information about high school scheduling as we get closer to the scheduling window.

We are quickly approaching our Spring Season, tryouts begin on March 18th, 2024. Please make sure that your Athletic Physical and Online Concussion Training are completed before this date!

PWCS enacted a no-bag policy for all indoor athletic events at the middle school level. This is in alignment with the policy currently in place at all high schools. This includes backpacks, purses, camera equipment bags, etc. Small wallet-sized clutch bags, clear diaper bags, and medically necessary bags are permitted. These bags may be subject to search. This policy went into effect for indoor athletic events at all middle schools on Monday, January 10, 2022. Our school will have a plan in place to secure any student bookbags as needed during athletic events. We will not be responsible for securing bags from any attendees who are not students at our school. Signage will be posted to remind attendees prior to arriving at the ticket area. We thank you in advance for adhering to this policy and look forward to having you with us to cheer on our student-athletes.

As a reminder, any student planning to attend any sporting event must go home after school and return for the game. Students are not permitted to remain at the school until the start of the event. In addition, If you are Academically Ineligible, more than 1 Failing class from the 2nd Quarter, you are unable to attend any athletic event. We will be checking the Ineligibility list before purchasing tickets for our Athletic Events.

Monday will be a “B” day.
