WSHS STEM NIGHT FEBRUARY 7

STEM Night is a collaborative, new, innovative event involving various STEM-focused clubs and honor societies like Math Honors Society, Robotics, and Medipath Club. This event is a fun and interactive way for students who share an interest in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics to come together and share the common interests and talk to like-minded peers/older students. This will also be a way for students who are interested in being in an honor society or STEM-related club in high school to gain information about our STEM honor societies and clubs at WSHS.

Throughout the evening, attendees will have the opportunity to explore interactive tables featuring engaging games and labs tailored to specific STEM disciplines. For example, SNHS will host a table with miniature labs and games, such as building a lava lamp and sorting recycling. Additionally, concessions will be available for purchase, enhancing the overall experience.  See attached flyers for more information.  The permission slip is not required for students to attend the event but helps give the high school an idea of how many people to plan for.  Permission slips can be dropped off in the front office Monday or Tuesday.

OPPORTUNITY FOR 7TH GRADERS

Lake Ridge Middle School Counselors are looking for students to nominate for the Early Identification Program at George Mason. The Early Identification Program (or EIP) serves as a college preparatory program that provides support and access to educational resources for middle and high school students. This program is focused on creating a path to college for students who will be the first in their families to attend a 4-year college or university in the United States.

If your student is a current 7th grader and you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please fill out this form by Monday, February 12th. A counselor will follow up with you via email to verify that your student meets the qualifications and to discuss the nomination process with you.

PWCS enacted a no-bag policy for all indoor athletic events at the middle school level. This is in alignment with the policy currently in place at all high schools. This includes backpacks, purses, camera equipment bags, etc. Small wallet-sized clutch bags, clear diaper bags, and medically necessary bags are permitted. These bags may be subject to search. This policy went into effect for indoor athletic events at all middle schools on Monday, January 10, 2022. Our school will have a plan in place to secure any student bookbags as needed during athletic events. We will not be responsible for securing bags from any attendees who are not students at our school. Signage will be posted to remind attendees prior to arriving at the ticket area. We thank you in advance for adhering to this policy and look forward to having you with us to cheer on our student-athletes.

As a reminder, any student planning to attend any sporting event must go home after school and return for the game.  Students are not permitted to remain at the school until the start of the event.  In addition, If you are Academically Ineligible, more than 1 Failing class from the 2nd Quarter, you are unable to attend any athletic event. We will be checking the Ineligibility list before purchasing tickets for our Athletic Events.

Monday will be a “B” day.
