WOLF WEEKLY
October 15, 2023
Good evening Lake Ridge Middle School Parents/Guardians-
SAFETY SCREENING SYSTEM
As we prepare to begin using our safety and security screening systems on Wednesday, we have been practicing with students to hopefully make for a smoother first few days with the new system. During our practice days, we noticed that laptops, binders, spiral notebooks, umbrellas, and eyeglass cases were the most common false alarms for the systems. Our recommendation is that while students are waiting to enter the building, they should be removing these items from their backpacks and holding them out to be passed around the table while going through the system. We know that the first few days may have longer lines to enter the building and we will adjust 1st period attendance based on when students have all had the opportunity to pass through the system and get to 1st period.
BACK TO SCHOOL DANCE
We will be hosting our first school dance on Friday, October 20 from 3-5 pm. Students will be able to pickup permission slips during lunch on Wednesday, October 18. Tickets will be sold during lunches on Thursday, October 19 and Friday, October 20.
SPIRIT WEEK
One of the things we acknowledge in October is Unity Day which falls on October 18th this year. Unity Day is important because it is the day where everyone is supposed to come together and show support for kindness, acceptance, respect, inclusion and their intolerance for bullying by wearing orange. This is what LRMS wants to support as well because we want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable here.
Unity is so important that we decided to make it 5 days of LRMS Unity. Each day there is a theme and an activity for classes to try. The hope is that the activities will give us an opportunity to strengthen not only our classes and school, but our community as well.
- Monday 10/16: Wear bright neon colors, sunglasses, glitter or sparkles.
- Tuesday 10/17: Wear colors that represent at least one of the country’s flags we are recognizing this month.
- Wednesday 10/18: Wear orange to represent Unity of our community.
- Thursday 10/19: Wear pink to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness.
- Friday 10/20: Wear LRMS colors or something that represents your heritage
6th GRADE READING
Lake Ridge Middle School Library is sponsoring a special dessert luncheon for 6th grade students, to encourage reading! We hope that every student enjoys the habit of reading for pleasure, at home, for at least 20 minutes each day.
If you would like to participate in this activity
- Complete the reading log
- Record the number of minutes you spend reading for pleasure each day (between September 11 and October 26)
- be sure to have your parent/guardian sign your reading log
- on October 27thgive your signed reading log to your Language Arts teacher
If you have read for at least 600 minutes, you will be invited to bring your lunch to the library and eat with the librarians during lunch in November. On that day, the librarians will provide a drink and dessert buffet.

For ALL indoor events, PWCS enacted a no-bag policy for all indoor athletic events at the middle school level. This is in alignment with the policy currently in place at all high schools. This includes backpacks, purses, camera equipment bags, etc. Small wallet-sized clutch bags, clear diaper bags, and medically necessary bags are permitted. These bags may be subject to search. This policy went into effect for indoor athletic events at all middle schools.
Monday will be a “B” day.
