CODE ORANGE

Code Orange was introduced during the 2021-22 school year with student learning to occur remotely, but asynchronously, when weather conditions are marginal and impact road or sidewalk safety conditions but are not so sever as to cause substantial impacts. It was announced in December 2021 that the goal of the division was to move to full synchronous (live instruction) during the 2022-23 school year. However, Code Orange operations continued last school year with asynchronous learning, enabling employees and students to adapt to working remotely and determine any further improvement or needs.  PWCS had on Code Orange day during the 2022-23 school year, and the instruction was asynchronous.

As originally communicated in 2021, PWCS will move forward with full synchronous, live instruction when a Code Orange is called for the current school year. This enables the option to continue critical learning, especially in situations in which we have inclement weather for an extended period of time. Keep in mind that this does not mean that Code Red days have been eliminated. Please view the updated Code Orange guidelines for 2023-24

Overview of Code Orange operations:

  • School buildings and office buildings will be closed, and the division will operate virtually.
  • Students will have a live virtual learning day from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. (Administrators determine school's specific Code Orange schedule.)
  • Synchronous (live) virtual instruction and services will be delivered remotely, according to these guidelines.
  • Non-essential employees will work remotely.

Please note, all other weather code calls remain in effect. Code Orange continues as an alternative to delayed openings and when weather conditions are marginal and impact road or sidewalk safety conditions but are not so severe as to cause substantial impacts.

This is in accordance with Regulation 405-1, “School Closing Due to Hazardous Conditions.”

Our Code Orange Schedule will be:

For ALL indoor events, PWCS enacted a no-bag policy for all indoor athletic events at the middle school level. This is in alignment with the policy currently in place at all high schools. This includes backpacks, purses, camera equipment bags, etc. Small wallet-sized clutch bags, clear diaper bags, and medically necessary bags are permitted. These bags may be subject to search. This policy went into effect for indoor athletic events at all middle schools.

Tuesday will be an “A” day.
