Good evening Lake Ridge Middle School Parents/Guardians-  We are excited to welcome our students back tomorrow and look forward to the beginning of a great school year.  If you have a bus rider, Please make sure to check the bus information to see if there have been changes.

 KISS & RIDE LINE

As we begin the new school year, it’s important to maintain safety and efficiency so we would like to inform you of the proper way to enter/exit from the kiss & ride line in the mornings and afternoons.  If you are driving your student(s) to school, please enter in from the 2nd entrance to the school which is located by the football field. Once you pull in, and come to a complete stop, please drop your student off; having them walk a little bit is a great way to get the blood flowing and their mind awake before school. By doing this, you help to move the traffic in and out of the school in a quick and efficient manner. Do not wait to pull up to the front door as it causes traffic to be backed up both ways on Mohican Rd. Parents are not permitted to drop students off in the large upper parking lot. The entrance next to the electronic marquee is for busses and staff only. As always, please allow extra time and drive cautiously in the parking lot. Please see the attached map for the flow of the kiss & ride line.

DOORS OPEN

The front door will open to students at 7:40 a.m. They can enter and head to the cafeteria to get breakfast.  They should not be walking the hallways.  Students coming in on the bus will be directed to Door 9.

SCHEDULES

Bus schedules were uploaded into ParentVue on Friday, August 11 and student schedules on Wednesday, August 16.  As a reminder, you will not be able to access them in ParentVue until you’ve completed the Back-to-School Packet.  Students will be assisted to find their first period classes, but it is important for them to know their first period teacher upon arrival.  First period teachers will provide them with a printed copy of their full schedule.  Students also need to know how they are getting home in the afternoon (walk, car rider, bus).  If they take the bus, they NEED to know their bus number.

POP UP ONLINE STORE

The Lake Ridge Middle School Online store is currently open.  Please click the following link to order any spirit wear you may want.  The store closes on August 31.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL PACKET IN PARENTVUE

Having up-to-date emergency contact information for our families is vital. We need all families to complete the annual Back to School Packet.  Until this packet is complete, parents/guardians will be unable to access important information in ParentVue to start the new year (including student schedules and bus information). If you do not have an active ParentVue account, please contact our front office.  The Back-to-School Packet is now available in ParentVue. 

ROBOTICS

The Robotics Club will have an interest meeting on Thursday, August 24 after school.  Students will meet in Room 1304.  The meeting will end at 3:30 and students need to arrange transportation home.

HERE COMES THE BUS

In order to better track your student’s school bus, we suggest registering for the Here Comes the Bus app.  Follow this link for instructions to setup your account.  Make sure to use the School Code 76348.

SETUP ONLINE PAYMENTS THROUGH STUDENT QUICK PAY

To easily pay student fees online, please setup a Student Quick Pay account.  Click the following link for instructions.

SCHOOL DEVICE INSURANCE

PWCS will once again be using Securranty for families who wish to purchase insurance for their student(s) assigned devices.  This is highly recommended to avoid costly repairs, or replacements, for damages Please see the attached flyer. 

FALL ATHLETICS

If your student intends to try out for a sports team this year, please remember to get their sports physical completed along with concussion training.  1^st time athletes MUST attend an in-person concussion training.  Any athlete that has tried out for or played a sport previously in middle school should do the training online here. 

A second in-person session has been added on Wednesday, August 23 at 6 p.m. The 2023-24 sports physical form is attached to this newsletter and you only need one form for any/all sports for the year.

Fall tryouts for Boys Soccer, Football, Girls Track, Volleyball, and Cheerleading will begin on Monday, August 28^th after school from 3:15 - 5:15.  Students will need to make sure they bring/wear proper athletic attire for their sport (athletic shorts, sneakers/cleats, and an appropriate shirt).  They will have an opportunity to change in the locker room before tryouts begin. Coaches will be checking an updated Eligibility List at the beginning of practice to see if the updated Athletic Physical and Concussion Training have been completed before trying out.  If they are missing any part, they will not be able to try out until all paperwork has been submitted.

Next week students will receive an “Interest Form” through their Student Canvas page to be completed in Advisory.  If you are interested in trying out for a fall sport, please make sure to complete it before Friday afternoon to ensure we have a great start to tryouts.

To ensure a fair and equitable tryout for all athletes, all tryouts and practices are closed to the public per Prince William County Public Schools policy.  Please respect all athletes participating in that sport as some athletes might be nervous during the tryout process.

As we begin school next week, please bring ALL completed Athletic Physicals and Concussion Training forms to Mr. Larson’s Room 1602.  Forms can be dropped off before or after school BY FRIDAY, AUGUST 25^TH.
