Please open the attached letter to see more information, including how to opt your student out of the survey and a sample of some of the questions that may be asked. LEXIA POWER UP AT HOME
Our Reading Specialist, Ms. Dinga, recommends scheduling a time for learning using Lexia Power Up at home. This program is a great way for your reader to practice and improve their reading skills in a fun and interactive way. Make sure to ask them about their progress each week and encourage them to keep up the good work.
It’s important to note that there are audio directions, questions, and instruction in Lexia Power Up, so headphones can be helpful but are not necessary. If you have any questions or need any additional support, please don’t hesitate to contact Ms. Dinga. She is happy to email certificates and other resources to help motivate your reader and support their learning. Thank you for your support and commitment to your child’s education.
PTO
The next PTO Spirit Night will be January 12th from 11am-10pm at MOD Pizza, 13800 Smoketown Rd.

ATHLETICS
Boys Basketball:
Monday, January 9th @ Manassas Park – AWAY
Wednesday, January 11th, vs. Hampton – HOME
Our Girl's Basketball and Wrestling Season is slated, to begin with, tryouts starting on Wednesday, January 25th from 3:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. A few notes/reminders before we begin:
1 - You need to have a 2022-2023 Athletic Physical and Concussion Training on file with the Athletic Director, Mr. Larson. When filling out the PWCS Athletic Physical Form, PARENTS fill out and sign pages 1,2, AND 4. The doctor/physician will fill out page 3 after the evaluation (if you are a member of Kaiser Permanente they will give you a printout for Page 3, this does NOT exclude parents from filling out pages 1,2, and 4)
2 - Concussion Training SHOULD be completed online, but there is an in-person Concussion Training on Tuesday, January 17th starting at 6:30 pm. After completing the Online Concussion Training, you HAVE to print AND sign the form in order to receive credit for completing the course. The doors will be locked at 6:30 pm and no participant will be allowed in after. Again, EVERYONE has the ability to complete it online.
3 - If a student failed more than 1 class during Quarter 1 they are Academically Ineligible to try out for Girl's Basketball and Wrestling. This also means that students are unable to attend Athletic Events after school, we will be checking as students enter the event.
NO-BAG POLICY FOR ALL INDOOR EVENTS PWCS enacted a no-bag policy for all indoor events (athletics, music concerts, plays, etc.) at the middle school level. This is in alignment with the policy currently in place at all high schools. This includes backpacks, purses, camera equipment bags, etc. Small wallet-sized clutch bags, clear diaper bags, and medically necessary bags are permitted. These bags may be subject to search. This policy went into effect for indoor events at all middle schools on Monday, January 10, 2022. Our school will have a plan in place to secure any bookbags, for participating students, as needed during events. We will not be responsible for securing bags from any attendees. You will be asked to leave your bag in your car or take it home. Signage will be posted to remind attendees prior to arriving at the ticket area. We thank you in advance for adhering to this policy and look forward to having you with us to cheer on our students.
LOST & FOUND
We currently have a large quantity of items in our Lost & Found, especially coats. If your student is missing something, please have them look for it. Clothing, lunchboxes, water bottles, etc. are located in the cafeteria (on the back wall). Electronics, keys, and jewelry are kept in the front office.
Monday is a “B” day.
