Good Evening Lake Ridge Middle School Parents and Students,

We have made it through the first semester.  I want to congratulate everyone in our Lake Ridge Middle School community for the effort they have put forth so far this school year.  In very difficult circumstances, we have persevered, and I am very proud of our students, teachers, and families.  I have included some notes and information moving forward for the second semester below:

Tomorrow is a teacher work-day……there will be NO OFFICE HOURS FOR TEACHERS.

Second semester classes start the week of January 26th

Report cards will be mailed home February 2, 2021

2021-22 Course Request Information

Rising 9th Grade students and families are encouraged to visit the LRMS Counseling Webpage to learn more about the upcoming high school course request process.  https://lakeridgems.pwcs.edu/our_school/counseling_office/scheduling/2021-22_rising_9th_grade_scheduling

Additional information will be shared through the LRMS Counseling Canvas page starting January 25, 2021. Rising 9th grade students are encouraged to stop by Breakfast with the Counselors on February 1st or February 8th if they would like to talk with our counselors about high school courses requirements and scheduling prior to meeting with a high school counselor. Students or parents may also reach out to their counselor individually through email. As a reminder, PWCS High School Specialty Program Deadline is February 1, 2021. For more information, please visit https://www.pwcs.edu/academics___programs/advanced_academic___specialty_programs

Information about Rising 7th and Rising 8th Grade Scheduling will be shared with students and parents in March 2021.

Second Semester Encore courses begin the week of January 26th. Students should check their new class in Student Vue. Due to the nature of scheduling this year, schedule change requests will not be permitted unless a student is missing a class, or a schedule error exists.

The current plan for returning to in-person learning is shown below.  Just a reminder that our bell schedule will be adjusted February 23rd to adjust for transportation, lunches, and in-person transition times if the School Division stays with the current plan.  As always, this timeline may be adjusted if deemed necessary by the School Board and a final decision is expected at the February 17th School Board meeting.

PWCS shares reminder regarding hybrid in-person start dates

Posted on 01/22/2021

As a reminder, on January 12, the School Board approved an updated plan for the in-person return dates for all fourth – 12th grade students (whose parent/guardian have chosen for them to return in-person). If a student has opted to remain virtual-only, they will continue to remain virtual. Should a parent/guardian wish to change from in-person to virtual, please contact your school directly to make the change.

Under the newly-adopted plan, the following will be implemented:

  • Fourth, fifth, sixth, and ninth grades will now start in-person (for those who chose to do so) for House A on February 25 and House B on February 26.
  • Seventh, eighth, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades will now start in-person for those who chose to do so) for House A on March 2 and House B on March 3.
  • All teachers who will be providing in-person instruction will report in-person to schools February 22.
  •  Career and Technology Education (CTE) Phase 1 and Phase 2 students will resume Monday classes on February 1. Monday CTE classes will continue until secondary students are phased in for in-person instruction.
  • All bell schedules, including for virtual-only students, will change effective February 23.
  • On February 23, all high schools begin around 7:30 a.m., middle schools around 8:15 a.m., and elementary schools around 9 a.m.
  • Specific bell times and bus schedules for each school will be shared as soon as available.

The Board further directed that information regarding the feasibility of these new dates be provided by the Superintendent at its February 17, 2021, Board Meeting. In the interim, the Superintendent shall retain the authority to take such measures as he considers necessary to protect the health of students and staff, including measures needed to respond to the impact of the pandemic on individual schools.

MEAL DISTRIBUTION CHANGES REMINDER:  Lake Ridge Middle School will no longer be distributing meals.  The closest location is now Woodbridge Senior High School and will only be distributing on Mondays.  If schools are closed on Monday, distribution will be on Tuesday of that week.  Please see attached flyer for more information.

On behalf of the Safe Schools Advisory Council, please see the Social Media and Internet Safety webinar link (pwcs.edu/safeschools).  The webinar will be held February 4th from 7:00-8:30 PM.  The maximum webinar participant capacity is 500 people.  If we should exceed 500 participants, others may still view the recorded webinar at their convenience.

I look forward to us getting off to a great start for the second semester!
