Dear Lake Ridge Middle School Parents and Students,

SCHOOL CLOSED FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF on Monday, January 18th and Wednesday, January 20th.  There will be NO OFFICE HOURS for teachers on Monday and the building will be closed – phones will not be answered.  There will be NO ZOOM CLASSES on Wednesday and the building will be closed – phones will not be answered.

We have made it to the last week of the first semester.  I look forward to seeing our students finish the quarter/semester strong!  I have some news about the end of the quarter/semester and about our return to building plan.

The end of the first Semester and Quarter 2 is January 22nd. Students should have all of their Quarter 2 work completed and submitted by the end of the school day, 3 pm.

Second Semester Encore courses begin the week of January 26th.  Students should check their new class in StudentVue.  Due to the nature of scheduling this year, schedule change requests will not be permitted unless a student is missing a class, or a schedule error exists.

MEAL DISTRIBUTION CHANGES:  Lake Ridge Middle School will no longer be distributing meals.  The closest location is now Woodbridge Senior High School and will only be distributing on Mondays.  If schools are closed on Monday (as they are tomorrow, Monday, January 18th – distribution will be on Tuesday of that week).

School Board Chairman's motion passed, revised PWCS hybrid in-person start dates

Posted on 01/14/2021

On Tuesday, January 12, the School Board passed a motion by Chairman At-Large Babur Lateef, which was seconded by School Board Member Jennifer Wall (Gainesville), to delay for an additional month the proposed return dates for all students above the second and third grade level from the dates adopted by the School Board in October. The School Board did not implement the plan provided by the Superintendent on January 6.

As such, under the School Board-developed plan, the following will be implemented:

  • Fourth, fifth, sixth, and ninth grades will now start in-person for House A on February 25 and House B on February 26.
  • Seventh, eighth, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades will now start in-person for House A on March 2 and House B on March 3.
  • All teachers who will be providing in-person instruction will report in-person to schools on February 22.
  • Career and Technology Education (CTE) Phase 1 and Phase 2 students will resume Monday classes on February 1, following the January 18 Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday and January 25 teacher workday. Monday CTE classes will continue until secondary students are phased in for in-person instruction.
  • All bell schedules, including for virtual only students, will change effective February 23.
  • On February 23, all high schools begin around 7:30 a.m., middle schools around 8:15 a.m., and elementary schools around 9 a.m.
  • Specific bell times and bus schedules for each school will be shared as soon as available.

The Board further directed that information regarding the feasibility of these new dates be provided by the Superintendent at its February 17, 2021, Board Meeting.

In the interim, the Superintendent shall retain the authority to take such measures as he considers necessary to protect the health of students and staff, including measures needed to respond to the impact of the pandemic on individual schools.

We will likely need to adjust our bell schedule once we begin in-person instruction to accommodate class changes and transportation, but I am hopeful our start and end times will remain the same.

I hope everyone has a great last week of the semester!  Please make sure you complete all assignments/assessments in order to show your mastery of the content for the quarter!
