Hamish Brewer on stage at TEDxOnly 18 minutes…the amount of time Fred Lynn Middle School principal, Hamish Brewer, had to share his mission to change the way we look at schools and to inspire others to think differently about education.

Chosen for the work he has done in re-building school communities and the success he has had in doing things that most say can’t be done, Brewer presented at a TEDx event on October 6 in New Zealand.

Brewer opened his presentation by sharing, “Life is about the opportunity that you get to impact the world around you, to make a difference, to leave a legacy.”

Brewer left it all on the floor. He shared his personal challenges as a child and rising above being told he wasn’t smart enough to be an educator. He shared his passion to challenge the status quo and to teach his students to be relentless. View the full presentation below - How radical love transformed a school.

Brewer, who is currently pursuing his doctoral degree, has been recognized as the 2017 National Association of Elementary School Principals Nationally Distinguished Principal, received the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals School Bell Award, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Virginia Impact Award. In 2018, he was named a Northern Virginian of the Year by Northern Virginia Magazine. Under his leadership, Fred Lynn Middle School has become fully accredited by the state of Virginia.
