Headshot of Lillie JessieLillie Jessie, Vice Chairman of the Prince William County School Board and Occoquan representative, was recently selected to be a member of the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Task Force on Schools in Challenging Environments. She attended her first meeting as a member in September.

The Task Force was originally formed in 2013 by the VSBA Board of Directors to make recommendations to the Virginia Board of Education and the Virginia Department of Education on ways to help challenged schools. It was reinstituted this year. The task force was created as a result of requests for assistance and concerns among VSBA member boards related to school divisions struggling to reach their most challenged student populations.

Jessie has been a long-time supporter of students and families in the category of “challenging.” Prior to her election to the PWC School Board, she served the school system as supervisor of Title I for 10 years, and as principal of Vaughan Elementary School, a Title I school, for 20 years.

“I am very excited about the advocacy I will be able to bring to this committee,” Jessie said.
