Students holding school supplies. Positively PWCSStudents at Enterprise, Minnieville, and Yorkshire Elementary Schools received a great gift at the start of the school year. All school supplies were provided to each student. The schools accomplished this by working with the school Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO)/Parent-Teacher Association and through fundraising.

The PTO at Minnieville Elementary raised money for school supplies throughout the 2017-18 school year. To help keep costs low, supplies were purchased in bulk through the Division’s vendors.

“Equity is a big deal when it comes to our school community, and we try very hard to make sure each child is on a level playing field on the first day of school,” said Minnieville Elementary principal, Nathaniel Provencio.

Enterprise Elementary also provided school supplies to all students, thanks to its PTA. The school and PTA hosted a Jog-a-Thon in May, with proceeds supporting the purchase of school supplies for each student.

“We feel that it is important to not only support our students, but our community as well. Education is about finding ways to provide opportunities that students might not otherwise get,” said Kelly Nickerson, principal of Enterprise Elementary.

With the help of a charity group, “Giving on Another Level,” Yorkshire Elementary was not only able to provide school supplies for each student, but back packs as well. Yorkshire parents, teachers, and the local VFW also helped with donations.

“We feel very happy to provide the supplies for our students this year. This takes a burden off our families and helps keep the focus on learning instead of whether we have enough pencils for every student,” said Lyn Marsillio, principal of Yorkshire Elementary School.
